The landlady of a much-loved pub at the heart of the community in Hitchin is to set to open a second site in a neighbouring village.

Victoria Kevans, who runs The Victoria in Ickleford Road, is planning to take on The Old George in Ickleford from early February. She said: “The Victoria was built to serve the community and still does. We like to make sure we give something back.

“We’re looking forward to offering the unique Vic atmosphere at our exciting new venture.”

Victoria’s sister Nicola Kevans, who helps run The Victoria, added: “The pubs will be run as separate entities. We want them to complement each other. We plan to open in early February. I’ll be at the ‘George’ on a daily basis with Victoria backing me.

“Community is so important to us – we also offer free use of our barn at The Victoria.”
