Two thieves got away after stealing a number of items from Hitchin’s O2 store today.

Police are investigating the theft which happened just before 12.30pm in Market Place, alongside an attempted robbery at the nearby Vodafone shop.

It is alleged that two men first entered the Vodafone store and attempted to take multiple items, but left empty-handed.

They then went into the O2 store and managed to disconnect items from the display units before leaving in the direction of Brand Street.

Two town rangers attempted to stop them, and there was a physical altercation before the offenders got away.

One of the men is described as being white, around 5ft 8in and was wearing a blue top and jeans. He was unshaven.

The other man was wearing black clothing. Both men were wearing scarves that partially covered their faces.
