A MAN has been handed a suspended jail sentence for possessing a knife in a public place and making threats to kill.
Sam Montgomery, 20, of Swinburne Avenue, Hitchin, was handed a eight month jail term, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work at Cambridge Crown Court last Wednesday.
Montgomery had pleaded guilty to having an article with blade in a public place, threatening to kill and affray, earlier last month.
A police report stated that, at about 3.30pm on July 8 this year, Montgomery pulled out an eight-inch knife when seeing the victim and his friend in Walsworth Road, Hitchin. He left the scene, but returned later and threatened to kill the victim.
Montgomery left the scene again, but was arrested by officers a short while later.
