A DISILUSIONED Hitchin Labour supporter who set up a petition on the No 10 website calling for Gordon Brown to resign has registered 72,000 signatures.

Kalvis Jansons, who started the e-petition in April, hit the tally as voting closed at midnight last night.

It makes it the tenth most popular petition on the website since it started accepting them in 2006.

The website says petitions with over 500 signatures are "usually" passed on to officials and a response given to each signatory.

But Mr Brown's spokesman said yesterday: "There are e-petitions on a whole range of issues. Obviously the PM doesn't personally respond to every one.
