A DANGEROUS driver who crashed head on into a car injuring two women has been fined and banned from the roads.

Yasar Rehman lost control of his BMW on May 7 last year. He was driving fast, but his exact speed could only be put at between 40 and 70 mph, a court heard.

Rehman, 21, of Woolgrove Road, Hitchin pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. He was given a £1,000 financial penalty covering fines, costs and compensation and disqualified from driving for a year.

Melanie Winter, prosecuting at Luton Crown Court last week, said the crash happened at about 2pm on a Sunday.

The driver of a Citroen car had picked up a friend in Midland Road, Luton and was pulling away at a slow speed when she heard a car coming revving hard.

When she saw the car approaching it appeared to be going so fast that its front hit the ground and went out of control.

"It came straight towards her, making a screeching noise and hit her head on. The passenger in his car put his speed at 40 mph but an eye witness estimated it at 70 mph. He left an 80 ft skid mark," said Miss Winter.

The driver of the other car had lower back pain and her passenger had whiplash and bruising. Both cars were written off.

Lawrence Selby, defending, said Rehman had lost £10,000 through the accident as his car was only insured third party.

Judge John Bevan QC said: "This was a clear case of dangerous driving causing you to lose control. You have paid a significant financial penalty already.
