A 42-year-old man from Hitchin has admitted being drunk and disorderly after a fight in Letchworth that left him and another man in hospital.

Craig Batten was arrested and charged after a fight in Southfields, in Letchworth, that saw him and another man fighting near the Tesco Express store.

Batten, of Radcliffe Road in Hitchin, needed hospital treatment for a facial injury afterwards.

He pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place when he appeared before Stevenage magistrates on Wednesday last week.

Chairman of the bench Vivien Marshall fined him £40 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and £30 surcharge.

The incident, which saw a window smashed at the nearby Macron shop, happened between 3pm and 3.15pm on September 10.

A second man – aged 33 and from Letchworth – was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed weapon, and also admitted to hospital due to his injuries. He was later de-arrested.
