A TEENAGER from Hitchin has been arrested in connection with an incident in which a man was attacked by four youths on a Hitchin common last week, leaving him with a broken shoulder and other serious injuries.
The 54-year-old victim was walking through Walsworth Common on Saturday, April 2 around 6.45pm, when he was assaulted by the youths.
He was pushed down some steps and punched in the face, before the offenders made off on foot.
“This was a shocking assault which has resulted in the victim sustaining serious injuries,” said Pc Steve Cook, who is investigating.
“I am calling for the public’s help in tracing those responsible and would like to speak with anyone who was in the park at the time and believes they saw what happened.
“I am particularly interested in speaking with a woman who pointed out one of the offenders to officers who initially attended the incident.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Pc Cook at Hitchin Police Station on 01438 757536.
The 17-year-old who was arrested has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
