The holiday season can be a difficult time for many reasons – so to give people something to look forward to a set of churches and community groups have come together to provide a heart-warming 75 Christmas hampers for those less-well off.

In order to reach their target the Hitchin Christmas Community Team – made up of Hitchin Partnership, Hitchin Christian Centre, Hitchin and Letchworth food bank, Cookery Eatery and Hitchin Volunteer Army – are appealing to businesses to help donate to their Christmas Hamper Appeal.

Their campaign is set to highlight the goodwill already within the Hitchin community, and the Christmas Community Team is delighted to be linking several organisations together who have previously done similar work on a small scale.

Christian centre community director Phil Jackson, told the Comet: “Christmas can be an especially difficult time of year for many people, maybe because of bereavement, family breakdowns, illness or financial hard times.

“To help make this time a little easier several local organisations are working together with an aim to provide hampers for 75 local families.

“Working together will enable us to deliver a comprehensive, high quality hamper – which will brighten up Christmas and beyond.”
