Students at Hitchin Girls’ School have raised more than £3,000 to support the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

The pupils from Year 7 raised a total of £3,068.71 with a sponsored walk – and head Frances Manning has handed over the cheque to Herts branch president and secretary Elizabeth Arendt and her dog Rufus.

Mrs Manning said: “I am absolutely delighted by the amount of money that our students managed to raise for this very worthy cause. Hearing Dogs is a charity with which we have been involved for many years and it is a particular favourite for our Year 7 students to work with in their first term with us at the school.

“It is an absolute privilege to meet Elizabeth and other volunteers and we hope that our donation will really help them in their on-going work.”
