FREE after 3 parking in Hitchin is set to arrive in the town next week.
The scheme, which will just apply to a new car park set up in the former sorting office site, will see parking free after 3pm, seven days a week.
Hitchin BID, which is subsidising the scheme, has also confirmed today (Tuesday) parking will be free all day on Mondays.
Town centre manager Keith Hoskins said he hoped the scheme would start next week.
There will be around 70 spaces in the new facility, which will be open to the public between the hours of 8am and 7pm.
Some proceeds from the car park, which will be staffed, will be plugged back into the town.
The car park will be temporary, while site owners Whitebarn Developments Ltd prepares its plans for its future use.
A draft plan for the site includes proposals for leisure, retail and restaurant facilities.
