The team at Hitchin Fire Station will be throwing open the bay doors for its annual open day this weekend.

The fun at the station in Newtons Way starts at 12 noon on Saturday and goes on until 3pm.

Watch commander Mark Burgess told the Comet this was meant as a thank-you to everyone for all the support given to the fire service.

“It gives everyone the chance to see what kit we carry, how we use it to make you and us safe, and also gives you the chance to use some of the kit, meet the crew that keep you safe, and have the chance to book in for a free home fire-safety visit,” said Mark.

“The highlight of the day may be the aerial ladder platform – the largest in Britain – doing the much-loved teddy bear parachute drop. So bring your teddies.”

There will also be the hot oil demonstration unit, a charity barbecue, the chance to design and then have made a fire station mascot, and much more.
