Benslow Fields in Hitchin will be afforded extra protection, after the planning inspectorate ruled an application to name it a village green should be granted.
It follows a public inquiry earlier this year, which saw residents giving evidence.
Hitchin Girls’ School, which owns the land, was also present at that inquiry, arguing against the application.
