Would you know if there were a slave next door? That’s the question that will be asked in Hitchin at an awareness evening.

The event, run by the Diocese of Westminster’s social action agency Caritas, aims to help people recognise the signs of human trafficking and modern slavery.

The evening at Our Lady church hall, in Nightingale Road, will be introduced by Caritas chairman Bishop Paul McAleenan. There will be spekers from police and anti-slavery charities.

A Caritas spokeswoman said: “The event will deliver practical advice on recognising the signs of human trafficking and why it is so vital that members of the community become the eyes and ears of the police.”

The free event is from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday, May 1, with refreshments from 6.30pm.
