Hitchin Scouts return from three-week Swaziland expedition

Six members of Hitchin District Scouts have returned from a three-week expedition to Swaziland in southern Africa.
Herts Scouts have been building an education youth centre in the landlocked nation – and Ellie Stone, Sophie Garner, Rose Feehey, Euan Gilfillan, Ollie Northan and Rowan Gray from the Hitchin branch were among the 40 Scouts from the county who went out for this fifth expedition.
Each Scout fundraised for their participation and towards the £8,000 needed to pay for a 30ft shipping container full of computers, equipment, books and more – which was delivered to the tiny kingdom via neighbouring South Africa.
Euan said it was an eye-opening experience to spend time in a different culture, and hopefully make a difference to the lives of the Swazi people.
Hitchin Scouts district commissioner Tony Hankin said it had been a fantastic opportunity for the youngsters to make use of the skills they had learned as Scouts.
