Hitchin deputy headteacher awarded for inspirational teaching ways

A DEPUTY headteacher has been presented with an award for her inspirational teaching ways.

Marie Michaelide, from Highover JMI and Nursery School in Hitchin, was given the award of Teacher of the Year in a Primary School in the eastern region for the 2012 Pearson Teaching Awards.

Miss Michaelide, who has been at the school for the past three years, said: “It’s wonderful and I feel really humbled. Making a real difference to children and adults is soul-lifting. I have been teaching for the past 13 years, it really is the most inspirational job. It’s a great privilege.”

On July 2, Marie, who is also a year six teacher at the school, will join the other eastern region winners at the House of Commons.

Following this, she will join winning teachers from across England, Wales and Northern Ireland at a national awards ceremony on October 20, which will be shown on BBC2 in the autumn.
