A bus driver intervened after a man tried to grab onto a Hitchin sixth-former’s arm at a bus stop.

Police have received a report of a man approaching the 17-year-old Priory School student while she was waiting at a bus stop near Redhill Road, and “behaving inappropriately” towards her.

Priory School head Geraint Edwards said a bus driver then intervened, with the police contacted afterwards.

“The female student is fine and her family are working with the police to identify the male involved in the incident,” he said.

“There has been some social media ‘gossip’ that has been picked up about someone attempting to lure girls with alcohol, but the school has no knowledge of this and the police have not informed us of any concerns.”

Police said the incident is described as happening between 11.30am and 11.45am on Tuesday last week. The safer neighbourhood team is investigating the incident.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting ISR 343 of January 16.
