A burglar ransacked a home in Hitchin yesterday – and police say they may have got in by reaching through a cat flap to unlock the back door.
The burglary happened in Nightingale Road between 8.15am and 4.50pm, officer said.
In a statement to Neighbourwood Watch members, PC Matt Jenkins said: “It would appear that the door was unlocked and opened from the inside by a tool being used by the offender reaching through a cat flap in the door.
“Having gained entry to the premises, an untidy search was made and a number of items were subsequently stolen.”
A force spokeswoman said the stolen items were an HP laptop, a pair of Nike Airmax trainers, two Xbox Ones, a pair of Gucci sliders, a pair of Balenciaga trainers, a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes, several bottles of aftershave and four bottles of vodka.
Anyone with information about the burglary should call police on 101, quoting crime reference G1/18/1146. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or crimestoppers-uk.org.
