Hitchin boy, 14, charged with 11 offences after spate of moped thefts

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with 11 offences after a series of moped thefts in Hitchin.

A 14-year-old suspected joyrider has been charged with 11 offences following a spate of moped thefts in Hitchin over a period of two weeks.

The boy from Hitchin, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was arrested on Friday last week. He has been charged with:

• Theft of a motor vehicle in connection with an incident in Bunyan Road between January 8 and 9

• Theft of a motor vehicle in connection with an incident in Portmill Lane on January 15

• Driving with no insurance in connection with an incident in Bedford Road on January 15

• Driving while otherwise in accordance with a licence in connection with an incident in Redhill Road on January 15

• Theft of fuel from Shell in connection with an incident in Bedford Road on January 16

• Theft – making off without payment – in connection with an incident in Bedford Road on January 17

• Theft of a motor vehicle in connection with an incident in Milestone Road on January 20

• Theft of a motor vehicle in connection with an incident in The Arcade between January 21 and 23

• Driving while otherwise in accordance with a licence in connection with an incident in Redhill Road on January 21

• Driving with no insurance in connection with an incident in Bedford Road on January 21, and

• Theft from a shop or stall in connection with an incident in Bucklersbury on January 22.

He has been released on bail and is set to appear at youth court on Thursday, February 15.

The boy had already been charged with aggravated taking without consent in connection with incident in Bedford Road on January 19, and driving with no insurance in connection with an incident in Redhill Path on the same date.

He is set to appear at youth court in relation to those charges on Thursday, February 8.
