Herts Highways have erected the misspelt sign on North Road in Stevenage.
A spokesman for Herts Highways said: "We are aware of this and have checked our records to confirm that when we ordered the signs we gave the correct spelling.
"We have taken this up with the supplier and they are going to re-send the signs, at no cost to the taxpayer.
