An inaugural History Day proved to be such a success that it could now have a place in Hitchin’s calendar, say organisers.
The Hitchin Historical Society event in the town’s Church House was described by organiser Dr Gerry Tidy as “a great opportunity to showcase what’s happening on the very active local history scene”.
A wide range of stands included a display featuring the planned new district museum in Brand Street, part of the Hitchin Town Hall development project, which should open its doors later this year.
Philip Wray, manning the the Preston table together with Penny Causer and Liz Hunter, said: “There was a steady stream of local folk who were clearly absorbed in the history of the area.”
Dr Tidy added: “Following the success of the History Day, the event may become a biennial feature in the Hitchin Festival.”
