Hitchin pupils’ charity run raises £1,000 for hospital children’s ward

Year 1 pupils from a Hitchin primary school have tackled a 1km sponsored run to help a children’s hospital ward.
The children from Highbury Infant School completed the run to support the children’s ward at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge – and raised more than £1,000.
The fundraising was inspired by the children wanting to show support for the family of one of their classmates, whose sibling is receiving long-term treatment at the hospital.
Year 1 teachers Anne Williams and Lucy Kirbyshire, who organised the event, have been amazed by the total raised by the children.
“When we first came up with the idea, we didn’t think for a moment that we would raise the amount we have,” said Mrs Williams.
“Between 60 children, over £1,000 has been raised.
“We are so pleased to be able to give this to such a good cause.”
