IT was a good night for Labour who took five of the six county council seats up for election in Stevenage.

Labour made three gains, taking seats off the Conservatives in Broadwater, Old Stevenage and St Nicholas.

The party also held its seats in Bedwell and Shephall.

The Liberal Democrats held the Chells division.

The total number of votes cast was 19,255, with a 30.04 per cent turnout.
