The children of a woman who died unexpectedly in her sleep are holding a music event to help raise money to pay for her memorial plot.

Sandra Potter, of Shephall View in Stevenage, went to bed on May 18 this year apparently fit and well, but never woke up. She was just 50 years old and left behind four children and four grandchildren.

Daughter Sophie Hackett said: “She loved her family to pieces and would have done anything for us. Her death was so sudden.”

Soon after their mum’s funeral, Sophie and her siblings started an appeal to raise the £3,000 needed for a memorial plot for their mum’s ashes to be buried. So far they have raised £547.

Sophie said: “This is important to us all so we can go and see mum, talk to her and lay her to rest. It would be nice for me and my siblings to go there on her birthday and at Christmas.”

A music event featuring house and garage favourites will be held tomorrow night at the Coach and Horses pub on the High Street in Stevenage Old Town to help raise further funds.

Sophie said: “Mum was very bubbly and loved house and garage music.

“This event will rewind us back to the old school house and garage days.

“Dress up and put your dancing shoes on for this worthy cause and sing along to the old classics.”

Tickets for the event, which runs from 8pm until midnight, are £10 on the door or can be bought in advance via the Facebook page ‘house and garage memorial fundraiser’.

An inquest to establish the cause of Sandra’s death was due to be held yesterday.
