Stevenage boss praises club stalwart after right-back makes 250th appearance for Boro

BORO manager Graham Westley lavished praise on Ronnie Henry after the right-back made his 250th appearance for the club on Saturday.

Henry, signed by Westley in January 2005, helped Boro to a clean sheet against Torquay United, and after the game Westley said: “He’s a stalwart. He’s been a tremendous servant over the years.

“I’ve had the pleasure of managing him in both of my reigns here. I was obviously the manager who brought him to the club. He has been a marvellous servant.

“The first captain to lift the FA Trophy at Wembley are among his numerous achievements over his 250 games. He’s helped the club from where it was all the way in to the Football League. He’s a tremendous player and it’s a wonderful achievement, it’s a credit to his fitness levels and his commitment as a professional.

“There aren’t too many players, certainly at Conference level, who have got both sides of the game. As a defender he can work the football, he’s an attacking threat. Often Ronnie rampaging down the right hand side is where a lot of our good play comes from, and at the same time he’s got that winning mentality.

“He’s able to put his foot in, able to defend and he’s got both sides of the game.

“He’s a good character, a good leader and there’s few of them around.”
