VOLUNTEERS are needed to help create a tapestry to celebrate a town's 60th anniversary.

Stevenage Borough Council is looking for people to get creative and help with the Big Stitch-In to create a huge wall hanging that will trace the history of the town from the Roman days to the present. Canvas, wools, needles and frames will all be provided and, if you don't want to, you don't have to even draw the designs yourself. The names of those taking part will be recorded on a roll of honour and each volunteer will receive a commemorative card.

Executive councillor for community and culture Sue Myson said: "This is a great opportunity for residents to make a tangible and creative contribution to the 60 years of Stevenage celebrations."

The project will begin in September. To get involved, ring Julia Taylor on 01438 222846 or 07941 527254.
