Police are searching for burglars after two houses in Hitchin were broken into – including one targeted by heartless thieves who stole a child’s piggy bank.

Offenders forced their way into a home in Hensley Close between 6.45pm and 9.45pm on Monday, stealing cash, a laptop, a number of items of jewellery, Nike trainers and a ceramic piggy bank.

On the same day thieves targeted a home in Ninesprings Way by smashing its patio door to get inside before searching the house for valuables - but nothing was taken.
