PRIMARY care trusts in Comet country will receive a budget increase of almost 25 per cent for the financial year 2007/08.

The Department of Health has announced Bedfordshire PCT will receive £515,000 for the financial year 2007/08, compared with the allocation of £414,000 for 2006/07 - a budget boost of more than £100,000.

The money will be used to acquire and modernise buildings, equipment and land.

A spokesman for the East of England Strategic Health Authority - the local headquarters of the NHS - said: "This funding is vital as it allows patients access to better facilities and more sophisticated equipment. Using these funds to modernise NHS buildings and equipment will not only benefit the community, it will also provide long-term investment in the future of the NHS.
