A HOSPITAL boss who resigned amidst an abuse scandal will oversee changes at Lister.
Andrew Butters quit his £91,000 job after NHS reports found that mentally ill and elderly patients had been badly treated.
The report stated that vulnerable patients had been slapped, hit, starved, kicked and taunted on a ward at a Manchester hospital when he was the head of the NHS Trust in 2003.
Mr Butters has now been appointed temporarily by Hertford-shire Primary Care Trusts - which oversees healthcare - to ensure the transfer of acute services from the QEII to Lister goes ahead smoothly and on budget.
A PCT spokeswoman said: "We're aware that Mr Butters worked for the Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust and held other NHS posts in the North West.
"More recently, on a consultant basis, he successfully managed a project in North Wales - similar to the one in Hertfordshire.
