A public appeal to find Edgar the tortoise has been launched after police believe he was stolen from a Stevenage garden yesterday.

Edgar, who is 5½ years old, was taken from a garden in Julians Road between 10am and 8.30pm.

The pet had been left in his run within the back garden of the property.

Investigating officer Andrea Peat said: “The owner is obviously very upset and is keen to be reunited with Edgar.

“I am appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area between the times stated to get in touch.

“I’d also like to hear from anyone who has been offered Edgar for sale or anyone who has information about who may have him.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Andrea Peat on 01707 355001, quoting crime reference E1/16/5899.
