A have-a-go hero has been taken to hospital after burglars broke into his home in Hitchin.

The man, who is still receiving treatment, took on thieves who entered his house in Roundwood Close in the early hours of Saturday morning between 2am and 2.30am.

Police believe the incident may also be linked to a second crime where a vehicle was broken into in nearby Grovelands Avenue around the same time.

Det Sgt Carolyn Taylder said: “Enquires are currently being carried out to establish the circumstances around what happened and police patrols have been increased in the area by way of reassurance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hitchin Local Crime Unit via the non-emergency number 101.
