The football team that everyone is talking about on social media is coming to Biggleswade this weekend to play against Sky Sports presenter Guillem Balague and his side for a great cause.
Hashtag United, a group of amateurs who film their games and post them on YouTube, are coming to Second Meadow to take on the renowned broadcaster and his Biggleswade United side to raise funds for Football Beyond Borders – an organisation which uses the power of the game to inspire.
Hashtag United are taking social media by storm. They have more than 500,000 followers watching their games every week on YouTube and are expecting more at this Sunday’s game – which kicks off at 2pm.
Guillem said: “We’re really looking forward to Hashtag United coming to see us and play a game.
“There is bound to be a lot of interest in what should be an enjoyable day. We hope to see as many fans as possible come to Second Meadow.”
Hashtag United were formed at the turn of the year and use features from video games to appeal to a younger generation obsessed with social media.
In their short existence they have already played against the Manchester City staff team, Google, a Comedians XI and former players such as Arsenal’s Ray Parlour and Paul Dickov.
Skipper Spencer Owen said earlier this season: “We don’t pretend to be top-quality footballers.
“We all come from different backgrounds and our squad is made up of players with varying abilities.
“We’re just a group of down-to-earth guys who enjoy playing football with each other and we’re loving some of the incredible things we’ve got to do together.”
The club tweeted to their followers: “Come watch us play Biggleswade United this Sunday. Huge game! Ticket proceeds go to Biggleswade and Beyond Borders.
Tickets cost £6 on the gate – come along and watch Guillem and his team play Hashtag United.
