THE family of Jeff Wornham and his partner Lizzie Honeycombe, who he lived with in Sandon north of Baldock, were full of praise for those who tried to save his life.

In a statement the family said: "Jeffrey's family and Lizzie would like to express their sincere thanks to the teams and individuals who have, over the past 758 days, put so much effort and research into the work into this inquest and to the coroner's court for its diligence.

"We would like to thank the following, who have in their own very kind ways helped us through this period.

"Friends and family for rallying to our aid initially, and then continuing their support since; the general public for its varied ways of support; the Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and special individuals within it for the kind ways in which they have assisted us.

"We would also like to thank the fire and rescue personnel involved on the morning of February 2, 2005; members of Jeff's Blue Watch family at Stevenage along with Red, White and Green watches.; Jim Dudley and Simon Dredge for their attempt to effect a rescue and the Baldock and Hitchin breathing apparatus crews, who selflessly exposed themselves when recovering Jeff's body.
