Harriet Harman, the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, visited Stevenage on Wednesday 14th April as part of the General Election campaign, meeting Stevenage shoppers in the Town Centre and visiting the Asda store on Monkswood Way.

During a walk about, led by the Labour Parliamentary Candidate for the Stevenage Constituency, Sharon Taylor, Harriet spoke with shoppers about key local issues affecting people in this election - including the economy and need for affordable housing - and lent her support to Sharon's campaign.

Sharon and Harriet then made their way to Asda to talk to staff there about their experience of the economic recovery, flexible working and education and training in the workplace.

Sharon said: "It was great to welcome Harriet to Stevenage so that she could meet local people in the town centre and hear first- hand how our local economy is doing from the staff at Asda. The employees there told us they can see signs of recovery, but it's still early days. That is why it is so important we continue to do everything we can to safeguard the economic recovery and not put it at risk"
