Linking Environment and Farming co-ordinates National Open Farm Day - which is this Sunday. The excellent local farmer and recently elected parish councillor Rosemary Pateman invites us to walk to her Burleigh Farm from 11am-3pm. There are three starting points, St. Mary's Church in Knebworth Park, Rusling End cart shed or the north-east end of Langley village street. Come and visit a working farm, farm walk, machinery, with corn and grain stores. Whilst there, shop at the farm, enjoy a bacon roll, taste the beer and the home-made cakes. Do not forget the elements, though, farming is an outdoor occupation. Information from W J Spicer and Sons (aka Rosemary and her husband, David) on 820353. No charge, but donations will be shared between Knebworth Family of Churches and RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute).

It is definitely the season of the fêtes much better than death. Like Rosemary, the organisers must pray for fine weather over the next three weekends. This Saturday, it is the turn of Datchworth, whose fête is on the Green from 2-5pm.
