CARS egged and fences being smashed were just two of the incidents reported to Hertfordshire Police on Halloween.

Altogether the police dealt with almost 500 999 calls between 3pm and midnight, double the number of calls made the previous day.

One incident which was reported took place at 9.45pm in Broadwater Crescent, Stevenage, when offenders threw eggs at a Vauxhall Astra, damaging the side wing mirror, before making their escape in another vehicle.

Another incident, this time in Baldock, saw an estimated 50 youths dressed in Halloween outfits and hoodies run off after it was suspected that they smashed three fence panels in California at 9pm.
