A gun was deliberately fired at a window in a quiet road in Hitchin in the early hours of Monday morning.

Armed police were sent to an address in Wedmore Road at around 4.15am yesterday morning after reports that a gun was fired at a house causing windows to shatter.

Officers are still hunting the offender as they confirmed it was a targeted attack.

Det Insp Lynda Coates said: “I’d like to reassure the public that offences of this nature are very rare and that we believe this incident was targeted. “We are doing all we can to locate the person responsible and I would urge anyone who may have seen someone in the area acting suspiciously in the days running up to the offence and when it happened, or if anyone has any information that might help with our investigations, to please call me via the non-emergency number 101.”
