A COMMUNITY group has sent a letter to the council voicing its concerns over demolition plans for a number of Victorian and Edwardian houses.

The letter, sent by Hitchin Forum to the head of planning at North Hertfordshire District Council, outlines its concerns about demolition proposals for buildings such as Titmore Cottages in Queen Street and Rose Cottage in Walsworth Road.

The forum is extremely concerned about the pulling down of buildings which are not protected by national listing, the local register or conservation area status, and would like developers to talk to community groups about their plans.

The letter states: "We ask that NHDC reconsiders its policy of agreeing that demolition of such architecture is acceptable in principle, and ask that it encourages potential developers of such properties to have early discussions with the local community to ensure proposals are acceptable to local residents and community groups.
