AN AFFORDABLE housing development on a brownfield site has been given the green light.

North Hertfordshire District Council's planning control committee has given the thumbs up for the development of 17 new homes on the former site of the Murco petrol station, on the junction of Pelican Way and Southfields in Letchworth GC.

Two two-bedroom houses, two three-bedroom houses and one five-bedroom house will be built. A three-storey building will also provide 12 one-bedroom flats.

The development will comprise 100 per cent affordable housing with six flats as shared ownership and the houses and remaining flats available for rent.

The development also includes 17 car parking spaces.
