Five parks and nature reserves belonging to North Herts District Council have retained their Green Flag Award status, as part of the national scheme.

The awards – which are given out by Keep Britain Tidy – recognise clean and vibrant parks and open spaces across the UK.

This year, Norton Common nature reserve in Letchworth and Priory Memorial Gardens in Royston both received the award for the ninth year in a row.

Howard Park and Gardens in Letchworth retained its status for the fifth consecutive year, while Ivel Springs nature reserve in Baldock did likewise for for the fourth year running.

NHDC’s executive member for the environment councillor Michael Weeks said; “North Hertfordshire is incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful green spaces for residents to enjoy and we work hard to make sure they are well maintained and accessible.”
