A care home in Graveley has been rated as inadequate and could close if it does not improve.

Halcyon Days in Church Lane had previously been given a requires improvement rating, but after inspectors returned in November it is now considered inadequate – the lowest of the four Care Quality Commission categories.

The health watchdog published its inspection report last week, which said: “At this inspection we found that no significant improvements had been made to the service since our last inspection, and that the provider was putting people at significant risk of harm.

“People were not protected from the risks associated with the transmission of health related infections. The home was not cleaned to a satisfactory standard and staff did not follow good practice in relation to infection prevention and control.”

Care home manager Laura Adams said: “With a brand new specialist management and support team recently installed, we are confident that we will be in a much more positive place over the next 12 months. The high standard of care within Halcyon Days still remains at the heart of what we do.”
