The outside of St Nicholas’ Community Centre in Stevenage has been transformed into a piece of art by Mark Tanti.

Young volunteers took part in a series of workshops to help create the mural, which took two weeks to complete.

Councillor Richard Henry, executive member for safer and stronger communities at Stevenage Borough Council, was the driving force behind the project, which was jointly funded with the help of all three St Nicholas councillors and a grant from the Community Safety Team at the council.

“The aim of this project was to create a public piece of art for the benefit of local residents and to make people more aware of the community centre,” said Cllr Henry.

“From the feedback we’ve received from the community, I think we’ve achieved what we set out to. St Nicholas residents have taken a real interest in the mural and the comments from passers-by have all been really positive. The exterior of the community centre looks vibrant and welcoming and the artwork gives a whole new feel to the building and area.”
