Antique valuables with sentimental value including gold, diamonds, and jewellery – as well as a John Lewis handbag – have been stolen in a Hitchin burglary.

Thieves forced open a window at the back of a house in Wymondley Road in the town stealing a 1920s 18 carat gold and diamond engagement ring, an Edwardian 18 carat gold ring with a blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds, a white gold ring with diamonds, an antique bar brooch with diamonds, and a Victorian 18 carat gold ring.

Other items taken during the break-in were an Austro-Hungarian turquoise, silver and garnet Victorian Bohemian brooch, an 18” gold chain and plain spiral nine carat gold pendant, a hand crafted pale sapphire from St Albans with white gold, a solid English silver crafted ring, a silver ring with amethyst, triangular silver and amber stud earrings, and a black leather purse with a diamanté clasp from John Lewis.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious at the time of the burglary which was between 11am and 2pm on April 28.
