GREEN is the colour of the moment in Letchworth GC. As global warming becomes a pressing issue for the next generation, concerned students from Highfield School have been highlighting to local manufacturer Altro just what it means to go green.
Pupils fronted a programme of energy management lessons at the garden city company as the two are working together to raise awareness of saving energy.
During Altro's Energy Awareness Week the school lectured the company on the energy crisis and how they can become eco warriors while Altro presented its energy management strategy.
Michele Costello, assistant headteacher at Highfield, said: "This has been an exciting event for our pupils. It has supported their studies and given them an insight into how a world class manufacturing operation approaches business sustainability."
Activities included an energy quiz, a green lunch and a green machine which demonstrates solar and wind power. Eco-friendly prizes were also given away and balloons were released at the end of the week.
Jon Tann, manufacturing manager at Altro, said: "Working with Highfield School puts a fresh angle on our strategy, as the pupils are so enthusiastic about the topic and have some great ideas about how we can all play a role in something that affects us all."
The company has been experimenting with wind and solar power, reducing consumption of raw materials and using state of the art recycling equipment.
