GREEN-THINKING customers will be given discounts if they sign a pledge saying they did not use their cars or motorcycles to get to a bookshop this Saturday.
The owners of David's Bookshop, in Eastcheap, Letchworth GC, believe there are too many unnecessary individual car journeys made in North Herts, so one day each year they tell people to leave their cars at home.
There will be prizes for the furthest distance travelled on the day without a car and the most inventive mode of transport - the bookshop's decision is final.
The store is offering free delivery in Letchworth and Baldock for purchases before 3pm for customers without cars.
The shop also welcomes environmentalist Pete Perry to discuss his latest book Vandals in the Garden.
