Headteacher Keith Wadsworth said this year's GCSE results were "right on target or slightly above".

More than 70 per cent got five or more A* to C grades, and 25 boys got five or more A*s or As.

Two exceptional students managed to notch up 10 A*s or As.

Mr Wadsworth said: "There are some quite exceptional results and we're very, very pleased.

"I think these results will be the best we've had certainly in my time and for a long time.

"There's a lot of hard work goes into it, by both students and staff."

Around 110 students have asked to come back to the school to continue their education next year, which would lead to a record sixth form of over 200.
