AS IT closes its doors for the final time, Collenswood can be proud its results have improved against all the odds.

Thirty per cent of students gained five A* to C grades.

Headteacher Dr Jenny Francis said: "We are delighted that, given the turmoil arising from the school closure and the number of teaching staff who left during the year which had to be replaced by short term cover, our results have improved."

High flyer Michael Lee achieved seven A*s, a B and a C.

Dr Francis said: "Many other students exceeded expectation and we are delighted for all of those who now have an opportunity to use this as a basis to move onto employment or further education."

Daryl Foster was pleased to see he had passed all his exams with two Bs, three Cs and three Ds.

He said: "I have been nervous all summer so I came in with a friend for moral support. I'm relieved and pleased so I'm going out to celebrate tonight."

Daryl wants to be a physiotherapist and is planning to study for a BTEC in sports science as part of his further education.

Drama enthusiast Kim Strahan is pleased with six As, two Bs, two Cs and a D.

She said: "I feel great. I got much better than I expected. I revised a lot and I went to a lot of extra lessons at lunch time and after school."

Kim would eventually like to train to become an actress.
