AN employee was forced to hand over money and cigarettes, after he was threatened at knifepoint at a Hitchin garage on Saturday evening.

The robbery took place at 7.50pm at the BP Service Station on Bedford Road.

Police are keen to speak to people who they believe were in the forecourt at the time of the incident.

No-one was injured during the incident.

Dc Nigel Humphrey, who is investigating, said: “This was a brazen robbery, which occurred mid evening and at a busy service station with people on the forecourt.

“I’d be very keen to speak with anyone who was there at the time of the robbery. You could have important information which could assist the investigation.”

The offender is described as a white man, about 6ft 2in tall, of a large build with short dark brown hair. He was wearing a dark coloured long sleeve top which had stripes running down the arms and a large crest style motif on the front left side.
