IT WAS full steam ahead at the weekend for a country village fair.
Whitwell Steam and Country Fair attracted record crowds according to organisers, raising around £12,000 for charity in the process.
Attractions at the event in Mansells Farm in Codicote included steam engines, tractors, classic cars, a traditional funfair, displays, demonstrations and a beer tent.
Money raised – estimated to be between £10,000 and £12,000 – will go to the Lister Hospital Macmillan Appeal.
Organising committee chairman Leo Maguire said: “It is a great day out. It wasn’t great weather, but it was relatively warm, and it didn’t rain, and people were coming up to us and saying they were having fun. People had a really good time.”
