OVER 2,700 women took part in Stevenage Race for Life in warm and blustery conditions at Fairlands Valley Park yesterday.
Competitors were raising funds for Cancer Research UK at the event that covered 5km around the parched park.
It is hoped the current fundraising record for the Stevenage race will be smashed with around 214,000 going to Cancer Research UK. Last year 204,000 was raised at the event.
Sarah Firth, the Race for Life manager, who attended Sunday’s event, said: “It was a fantastic day and for many people it was an emotional day but there was tremendous enthusiasm from everytone. It was a great day.
“It turned out very warm in the end and we had to bring in extra bottled water for our marshals to hand out to competitors to prevent them from dehydrating.”
