A HISTORIC flypast was the highlight of a country fair at the weekend.

Great events from British history were celebrated at the 2013 Stotfold Watermill Steam Fair and Country Show which was held on Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors were treated to a rare chance to see a Battle of Britain memorial flight, with Spitfires, Hurricanes and a Lancaster bomber in the flypast.

Medieval history was represented by the armour-clad Knights of Honour who demonstrated trials of combat and feats of bravery, while sheepdog demonstrations showed the more recent rural heritage of the area.

Representing the 21st century was a Stig look-alike and bike stunt show.

A parade of steam engines from the Saunders Steam Collection in the Sunday parade was enjoyed by the large crowd - over 10,000 people visited the event over the two days.

The profits from the show guarantee that the mill will be able to stay open for another year.

Kevin Balderston, chairman of the events team, said: “We pride ourselves on making this a great day out for all the family, whatever their age or their interests. We felt that this was our best programme ever and were delighted we could offer such a huge variety of activities for people to enjoy.

“We had over 100 volunteers working over the weekend and all worked extremely hard. We owe them all a very big thank you.”
